MTL & DTL EXPLAINED
The world of vaping can seem complex so we’re here to help you understand some of the aspects. We’ll provide straight talking explanation to make it easier for you to make your vape experience all the better!
At some point during your vape journey you’ll have heard about Mouth to Lung (MTL) and Direct to Lung vaping (DTL). It relates to two different styles of vaping. Once you know what you prefer you can then search for the right vape device and compatible e-liquids.
Mouth to Lung (MTL)
If you’re an existing smoker you’ll be familiar with this type of smoking as it’s similar to how you would smoke traditional tobacco products. MTL is when you inhale the vapour into your mouth, let is stay there momentarily and then breathe it down into your lungs. MTL devices are the best ones to select when starting to vape as the technique to draw the vapour through the device and to the lungs will feel familiar and allows you to enjoy the new experience of vaping knowing you are doing it right.
MTL devices use high PG e-liquids which allows for a smooth transfer of the flavour and nicotine through the coil to give a throat hit that smokers recognise as part of their enjoyment.
Direct to Lunch (DTL)
Simply put, this mean the vapour goes directly into your lungs without lingering in your mouth. DTL isn’t usually an entry point for new vapers as the hit can be more intense than MTL, which can be a little off putting for first time vapers, however over time once you’ve become experienced you may want to give DTL a try. DTL also provides flumes of vapour, or more commonly known as ‘cloud chasing’, which for some is part of the enjoyment of vaping. Sub ohm devices are DTL and will usually be a bigger device as they need a larger battery and often have settings which allow you to alter the air flow to satisfy your preference.
High VG e-liquids are needed for DTL devices and as the hit is more intense than MTL you’ll usually find the maximum nicotine level available will be lower than high PG e-liquids.
