The UK vaping industry is preparing for a major change. From 1st October 2026, the government will introduce a new Vaping Products Duty, also known as VPD.
For customers, this means vape products that contain vaping liquid will become more expensive. This includes e-liquids, prefilled pods, prefilled pod kits, and zero nicotine e-liquid are all subject to duty tax.
The duty will be charged at £0.22 per 1ml of vaping liquid, which works out as £2.20 per 10ml, plus VAT. The official GOV.UK guidance presents the rate as £2.64 per 10ml of vaping liquid, which is inclusive of VAT.
At Jenson E-Cig, we want our customers to understand what is changing, when it starts, why prices will rise, and why it will be worth stocking up before the new duty charge is implemented.
What Is the UK Vaping Products Duty?
The Vaping Products Duty is a new UK tax on vaping liquid. It applies to vape liquid produced in or imported into the United Kingdom.
The important thing for our customers to understand is that the duty is based on the amount of vape liquid in a product.
That means the duty is not based on flavour, brand, device, or nicotine strength. It is based on how many millilitres of vaping liquid the product contains.
The duty rate is:
£0.22 + VAT per 1ml of vaping liquid
Equivalent to £2.64 per 10ml, which is inclusive of VAT
This applies whether the vape liquid contains nicotine or is nicotine-free.
When Does the UK Vape Duty Start?
The new Vaping Products Duty starts on 1st October 2026.
From that date, new duty-liable vaping products entering the UK market will need to follow the new duty and duty stamp rules.
This is why manufacturers, importers, suppliers, and retailers are already preparing for the change.
For customers, the key point is simple:
Vape prices will begin to rise as new duty-paid stock enters the supply chain.
Will Prices Rise Immediately on 1st October 2026?
Not necessarily for every product.
The new Vaping Products Duty begins on 1st October 2026, but there is also a transition period for some existing stock that retailers already hold that were imported into the United Kingdom before 1st October 2026.
This means that vaping products already held by retailers before the new rules begin may still be sold until 31st March 2027, even if they do not yet carry the new duty stamp. However, any new duty-liable stock imported from 1st October 2026 onwards will need to follow the new rules and carry the correct duty stamp. GOV.UK states that retailers can sell unstamped stock they already hold until 31st March 2027, while new duty-liable stock imported from 1st October 2026 must have a duty stamp.
For customers, this means prices may not change on every product overnight. Some existing stock may still be available at current prices for a limited time, depending on what retailers have in stock.
However, as existing stock sells through and new duty-paid stock replaces it, prices are still expected to rise across many vape products. You may see the same identical product with two-tier pricing (1 which was imported prior to 1st October 2026, and one which was imported after 1st October 2026)

So while the price change will happen gradually, customers should still expect vaping products containing liquid to become more expensive as the new duty becomes part of the supply chain.
How Much Is the New Vape Duty?
The new vape duty is charged at:
£0.22 per 1ml of vaping liquid, equivalent to £2.64 per 10ml, which is inclusive of VAT.
To make this easier to understand, here are some simple examples:

These figures show the duty before and after VAT. The final price customers see may also be affected by supplier costs, product costs, delivery costs, and retailer pricing.
Why Does £0.22 per 1ml Matter?
The £0.22 per 1ml figure makes the duty easier to understand.
For example:
A 2ml prefilled pod will carry around £0.53 duty which inclusive of VAT.
A 4ml pod pack will carry around £1.06 duty which is inclusive of VAT.
A 6ml prefilled pod and coil pack will carry around £1.58 duty which is inclusive of VAT.
A 10ml bottle of e-liquid will carry around £2.64 duty which is inclusive of VAT.
This is why products with more vape liquid will see a bigger price impact once VPD is fully in place.
Which Vape Products Will Be Affected?
The new duty will affect many products that contain vape liquid, including:

In short:
If a product contains vaping liquid, it will be affected by VPD. The final price change will vary depending on the amount of liquid, VAT, supplier costs, and whether the product is existing stock or new duty-paid stock.
Meaning, existing stocks imported before 1st October, 2026 will remain the same price until 31st March, 2027.
What Does This Mean for Jenson E-Cig Customers?
For Jenson E-Cig customers, the main thing to know is this:
Current vape prices will not stay the same once VPD begins.
Until the new rules come into effect, customers are still able to shop CURRENT PRICES and take advantage of existing multibuy offers across selected ranges.
At Jenson E-Cig, we will continue to focus on affordable options, clear pricing, and value-focused deals wherever possible. However, once VPD begins and new duty-paid stock enters the market, the cost of vape products will increase.
Should You Stock Up Before the Vape Duty Starts?
If you regularly buy e-liquids, prefilled pods, pod kits, or other vape products containing liquid, it will be worth planning ahead before October 2026.
Stocking up before the duty begins could help you:
- Buy your favourite flavours while current prices are still available
- Make the most of existing multibuy deals
- Avoid sudden price changes later in the year
- Keep your usual vape products on hand before demand increases
- Save more before new duty-paid stock becomes the standard
As always, customers should only buy what they reasonably expect to use.
VPD by Product Range
The examples below show how the new Vaping Products Duty taxes cost based on the amount of vape liquid included.
The duty is calculated at £0.22 per 1ml of vaping liquid, which works out as £2.64 per 10ml, which is inclusive of VAT.

Please note that these will be the added Duty + VAT Cost based on examples of existing products. Final product retail prices may vary depending on VAT, supplier costs, product costs, and any future pricing changes.
These examples show why the duty will have a noticeable effect on vape products that contain e-liquid. For a 10ml e-liquid, the duty which is inclusive of VAT is £2.64, while a product containing 4ml of vape liquid will carry £1.06 duty which is also inclusive of VAT.
This does not mean every product will increase by exactly the same amount at checkout. However, it gives customers a clearer idea of how VPD will affect the cost of everyday vape products once new duty-paid stock becomes the standard.
Are Nicotine Pouches Affected by VPD?
Nicotine pouches such as Jenson PEAX Nicotine Pouches ARE NOT vaping liquids, so they ARE NOT affected by VPD at this time in the same way as e-liquids, prefilled pods, or pod kits that contain vape liquid.
This is because VPD is focused on vaping liquid.
That means products such as:
- E-liquids
- Prefilled pods
- Prefilled pod kits
- Big puff prefilled products
- Zero Nicotine E-Liquid
Will be affected because they contain vape liquid.
Nicotine pouches DO NOT contain vape liquid, so they ARE NOT calculated using the £0.22 per 1ml duty rate.

The duty is charged at £0.22 per 1ml of vaping liquid, which works out as £2.64 per 10ml, inclusive of VAT.
The official rate is usually shown as £2.20 per 10ml. This is the same as £0.22 per 1ml. Explaining it per 1ml makes it easier for customers to understand how the duty will affect different products.
Yes. The duty applies to both nicotine and non-nicotine vaping liquids.
All e-liquid prices will rise because the new duty adds an extra cost based on the amount of vaping liquid in the product. The final price change may vary by product, brand, supplier, and retailer.
Yes, prefilled pods will be affected because they contain vape liquid. For example, a 2ml prefilled pod could carry around £0.53 in duty inclusive of VAT.
Yes, Jenson Franko products that include prefilled pods will be affected because they contain vape liquid. For example, the Jenson Franko Rechargeable Pod Kit contains 4ml of vape liquid so that means it will have a duty cost of £1.06 inclusive of VAT, while the Jenson Franko Prefilled Pods & Coil pack contains 6ml of vape liquid which means it will have a duty and VAT cost of £1.58 which is inclusive of VAT .
Yes, if the kit includes prefilled pods or vape liquid, it will be affected by the duty.
Products that contain vape liquid will be affected by the duty. This can include big puff prefilled systems, depending on the amount of liquid included.
The duty is focused on vaping liquid. Devices, tanks, batteries, coils, and hardware that do not contain vape liquid WILL NOT be affected in the same way. However, kits that include prefilled pods or liquid will still be impacted.
Nicotine pouches ARE NOT vaping liquids, so they ARE NOT affected by VPD in the same way as vape products that contain liquid. This means Jenson PEAX Nicotine Pouches ARE NOT calculated using the £0.22 per 1ml vape duty rate.
Not necessarily for every product. Some existing stock already held by retailers may still be sold until 31st March 2027. However, new duty-liable stock imported from 1st October 2026 onwards will need to follow the new duty and stamp rules.
If you regularly use e-liquids or prefilled pods, it WILL be worth buying your usual products before the duty begins, especially if current multibuy deals are available.
Jenson E-Cig will continue to focus on affordable pricing and value-focused offers where possible. However, the new duty will affect the final price of products that contain vape liquid.
